Serang Landfill Fire Not Fully Extinguished After Three Days, Says Banten Regional Police

The fire affecting the Final Disposal Site (TPSA) in Waringinkurung Village, Serang Regency, Banten, is showing signs of subsiding after burning the landfill area since Friday night, 28 August 2026.

The Banten Regional Police confirmed that the fire points at the location began to die down on Sunday, 30 August 2026. However, officers are still struggling with several spots that continue to emit smoke.

The Head of Public Relations for the Banten Regional Police, Commissioner Maruli Hutapea, stated that handling is still underway to ensure no flames re-emerge from the piles of waste.

“At this moment, the fire points have begun to subside,” he told reporters on Sunday, 30 August 2026.

Firefighters have been deployed to spray water on various locations, while heavy machinery is being used to break up the waste piles that potentially still contain embers.

“This morning, excavators will push the waste piles, and the fire brigade will spray the spots where smoke is still appearing,” he said.

According to preliminary data, the fire destroyed an area of approximately 2,500 square metres. However, the police have not yet been able to confirm the cause of the fire.

“The cause is still under investigation; the area of burnt waste is approximately 2,500 square metres,” he added.

The fire was discovered on Friday, 28 August 2026, at around 6:00 PM WIB. The flames were first spotted by residents returning home after collecting grass for livestock feed.

Residents subsequently reported the incident to the Waringinkurung Police Sub-district. Police officers then arrived at the location to assess the fire conditions.

At the time, the cause of the fire remained unknown. The Chief of Waringinkurung Police, Inspector Hari Purwanto, noted that the location’s distance from residential areas has been one of the obstacles in determining the fire’s origin.
