Serang City Government Defers Asset Dispute Resolution to Central Government
The Regional Secretary of Serang City, Nanang Saefudin, has emphasised that both parties hold their own arguments regarding the disputed assets. Consequently, the City Government views a decision from the central government as the best way to end the long-standing debate.
“Firstly, we must certainly be obedient and compliant with the prevailing laws and regulations. Each party has their own arguments; the Regency has its arguments, and the City has its own,” said Nanang on Wednesday (3/6/2026).
“Following the latest meeting facilitated by the Ministry of Home Affairs, we have deferred the entire matter to the central government. We will await whatever policy is decided,” he added.
Nanang believes the legal basis regarding the transfer of assets is actually clear. According to him, the applicable regulations refer to the principle of domicile, meaning all assets located within the administrative territory of Serang City should be handed over to the Serang City Government.
“It is actually clear and transparent that some parties refer to the principle of domicile. All assets within the Serang City territory should be fully transferred to the Serang City Government. That is all. Therefore, everyone must remain obedient and compliant with the laws and regulations, regardless of who they are,” he asserted.
Nanang explained that the issue will be reviewed by several agencies at the central level. The review will involve the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Regional Autonomy Advisory Council before a final decision is reached.
“It will certainly be reviewed by several agencies, including the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Regional Autonomy Advisory Council. We need a final decision, otherwise, this situation will continue to drag on,” he said.
Regarding why the asset dispute remains unresolved, Nanang declined to speculate, suggesting that inquiries regarding the delay be directed to the Serang Regency Government.
“You should ask the Serang Regency Government why this has been prolonged and why the assets have not been handed over to the City Government,” he concluded.
