Sunday, 8 March — The Serang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in Banten reported that 573 homes were flooded and two dwellings were seriously damaged after extreme weather struck the area. Diat Hermawan, the Acting Head of Operations at Serang City BPBD, said the disaster affected 573 households, or about 1,905 people, spread across several sub-districts. ‘The floods were triggered by rainfall of moderate to heavy intensity, combined with drainage failures and river overflow, at eight locations,’ Diat told Antara.

BPBD data show the flood-affected areas include Serang District, Lopang urban village, Cipocok Jaya District, Banjar Agung urban village, with the worst-hit areas in Kasemen District, and the urban villages of Kasunyatan and Sawah Luhur. In Kasemen, in the Manggerong neighbourhood, water height reached 100 centimetres. At other points such as Kroya Baru and Kroya Indah Permai, water levels of 30–50 centimetres were still flooding residential areas.

In addition to the floods, the extreme winds also caused two houses to collapse. The first incident involved Aprizal’s house in Lopang urban village, Serang District, and the second involved Muktar’s house in Nyapah urban village, Walantaka District.

‘We have deployed personnel to the field to evacuate affected residents, carry out assessments, and keep equipment ready at the affected locations,’ added Diat.

BPBD urged residents, particularly those living in disaster-prone areas and road users, to remain vigilant for further extreme weather changes and the potential for downed trees or landslides.
