Sepaktakraw to be medal sport in Asiad

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Sepaktakraw has been included on the list
of medal events for the 2002 Asian Games in Pusan, a South Korean
sports official said on Friday.

Secretary-general of the South Korean Sepaktakraw Association
Lee Qoea-gyu said four gold medals would be at stake -- two for
men and two for women.

Lee is the Korean team manager for the World Cup Inter-Regu
Sepaktakraw Championship being held in the eastern town of
Kuantan. Fifteen countries are taking part.

The game, which originated in Southeast Asia, is played by two
teams of three players each. The object is to propel a ball made
of woven rattan stems or plastic over a net using any part of the
body except the hands.
