Sepablock Technology Becomes Pilot for BNPB Permanent Housing in West Sumatra
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) is utilising Sepablock technology, an innovation produced by PT Semen Padang, as a pilot model for the self-built permanent housing (huntap) programme for survivors of the flash floods and landslides in West Sumatra.
BNPB Main Secretary Rustian, in a statement issued in Jakarta on Wednesday, said the interlocking brick material was applied to the first demonstration huntap unit officially handed over to disaster survivors.
“This huntap, which has been completed and handed over to its owner, is a model house for post-disaster reconstruction using Sepablock technology,” he said.
“The Padang City Government has now proposed the construction of an additional 22 huntap units,” he added.
Rustian explained that this demonstration house based on modern technology was completed first to serve as a reference standard and a basis for technical evaluation before the mass construction of other huntap units gets under way.
The pilot project, whose construction began with the laying of the first stone in late March 2026, is regarded as the government’s rapid solution for providing safe, decent and sustainable housing.
The handover of keys to the demonstration houses, built with special raw materials, was carried out simultaneously in three priority disaster-affected areas: Padang City, Pariaman City and Padang Panjang Regency.
In Padang City, the handover of a type-36 demonstration unit was centred in Kampung Tanjung, Kuranji District, accompanied directly by Padang Deputy Mayor Maigus Nasir.
Appreciation also came from Emridona, a resident of Sintuak Naras Village, North Pariaman District, Pariaman City, who received a demonstration huntap unit after his former home was completely destroyed by the floods and landslides of November 2025.
“Mr Maigus hopes BNPB will soon build 22 additional huntap units and borehole well facilities for other affected residents,” said Rustian.
Rustian urged beneficiary residents to occupy the demonstration houses promptly, as their structural characteristics have proven robust, safe from extreme weather and resistant to potential earthquakes.
He affirmed that post-disaster recovery from the floods, exacerbated by the atmospheric disturbance of Cyclone Senyar in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra, remains the government’s top priority through the synergistic use of adaptive disaster technology innovations.
