Sentenced to 4.5 Years in Prison, Noel Ebenezer Apologises to Prabowo
Jakarta, VIVA – The former Deputy Minister of Manpower, Immanuel Ebenezer, also known as Noel Ebenezer, has been sentenced to 4.5 years in prison in connection with an extortion case involving the processing of Occupational Health and Safety (K3) certifications within the Ministry of Manpower. Noel stated that he accepts the sentence as a consequence of his actions. “Today, justice and the punishment against me have concluded, and I accept this sentence because I have admitted my mistakes from the beginning. This is the consequence of being an official who was negligent, an official who has disappointed the public,” Noel said following the hearing at the Corruption Court in Central Jakarta, Thursday, 4 June 2026.
Noel subsequently issued an apology to the Indonesian people, labour unions, and President Prabowo Subianto. “I have no words other than to apologise to the people of Indonesia, secondly to President Prabowo, and thirdly to the labour comrades whom I fought for. I am deeply sorry for disappointing them,” he said.
Previously reported, Noel Ebenezer was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for the extortion case involving K3 certification processing at the Ministry of Manpower. In the ruling, the panel of judges declared Noel guilty of committing corruption in the matter. “Therefore, the court sentences the Defendant to 4 years and 6 months of imprisonment,” said the presiding judge, Nur Sari Baktiana, while reading the verdict at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday, 4 June 2026.
In addition, Noel was ordered to pay a fine of Rp200 million, which is subsidiary to an additional 90 days of imprisonment, and must pay restitution of Rp3 billion. The judge stated that Noel’s assets may be seized and auctioned to cover the restitution. If the assets are insufficient, the deficiency will be replaced by an additional 1-year prison sentence. The sentence is lighter than the prosecutor’s previous demand, which sought a five-year prison term for Noel.
