Jakarta — A panel of judges has handed down a severe sentence to defendant Muhammad Kerry Adrianto Riza, son of oil magnate Riza Chalid. Kerry was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, fined Rp 1 billion, and ordered to pay restitution of up to Rp 2.9 trillion.

The verdict relates to a corruption case concerning the management of crude oil and refinery products at PT Pertamina (Persero), its subholding, and contractor partners (KKKS) during the period 2018-2023. Lead Judge Fajar Kusuma Aji delivered sentences to three of the nine defendants convicted in the case.

The sentencing hearing took place at the Anti-Corruption Court (Tipikor) of Jakarta Central District Court (PN Jakpus) on Friday, 27 February 2026.

Judge Fajar stated that defendant Kerry had been proven beyond reasonable doubt to have committed corruption offences jointly as per the primary charges.

“The court hereby imposes a sentence on defendant Muhammad Kerry Adrianto of 15 years imprisonment and a fine of Rp 1 billion, which must be paid within one month and may be extended for a maximum of one additional month from the date the verdict has legal finality,” Fajar said during the sentencing hearing at the Anti-Corruption Court.

“The court further imposes an additional penalty on the defendant to pay restitution in the amount of Rp 2,905,420,003,854 as a subsidiary penalty of 5 years,” Fajar added.

Kerry Speaks Out

Dissatisfied with the verdict, Kerry announced that he would appeal the conviction and pursue all available legal remedies. He stated he would not give up and would continue with legal proceedings.

“There are still legal remedies available. God willing, I will file an appeal,” Kerry said following the hearing on Friday, 27 February 2026.

Kerry expressed confusion with the sentencing outcome, stating that many trial facts had not been incorporated into the court’s considerations.

“I’m also confused by the verdict because many facts from the trial were not included in the court’s reasoning. God willing, I will continue with legal proceedings and hope to obtain justice elsewhere,” he insisted.
