Sentenced to 10 Years, Nadiem: I Will Fight, I Will Appeal Immediately!
Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim will appeal the 10-year prison sentence imposed on him. Nadiem was found guilty by the judge in a corruption case concerning the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management (CDM).
“I will fight. I will immediately file an appeal to keep moving forward, for the truth, for the young people, for the professionals out there, for all honest people who are criminalised,” Nadiem said after the trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (30/6/2026).
Nadiem admitted he has been fighting for justice over the past year. He felt he had conveyed the honesty of the actions he and his team undertook during his tenure as minister. However, Nadiem feels his good intentions were instead rewarded with a 10-year prison sentence.
“All the good intentions that my team and I carried out during our time at the ministry have been explained. But it seems as if it meant nothing,” Nadiem stated.
