Senopati Traffic Gridlocked After Truck-Damaged Footbridge Dismantled in Tendean, South Jakarta

Traffic in the Senopati area of South Jakarta was heavily congested on Tuesday afternoon due to the dismantling of a pedestrian bridge (JPO) that was nearly destroyed after being struck by a truck on Jalan Kapten Tendean. Observations at the scene at 2:00 p.m. WIB indicated that the gridlock began on Jalan Gunawarman, with queues of vehicles stretching to Jalan Senopati. Vehicles could only crawl along Jalan Senopati, and motorcyclists were seen weaving between cars and even using the bicycle lane due to the severe congestion. The traffic jam continued onto Jalan Suryo up to the intersection with Jalan Wolter Monginsidi. Officers were observed closing Jalan Wolter Monginsidi heading towards Jalan Tendean or Pancoran. Several motorists could be heard continuously sounding their horns, and some motorcyclists attempted to bypass the jam by driving on the pavement. The incident began when a truck transporting heavy equipment failed to clear the height of the pedestrian bridge on Jalan Kapten Tendean, causing the structure to nearly collapse. The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported the accident occurred at 12:30 a.m. WIB due to the driver’s negligence. The Jakarta Provincial Government subsequently proceeded to dismantle the bridge, resulting in the temporary closure of Jalan Tendean and the diversion of traffic.
