JAKARTA - The image of elderly housing is often associated with nursing homes that evoke loneliness and isolation. However, this impression changes immediately upon entering Senior Living Care in the Gunung Sahari area of Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

In a common room, several seniors are chatting while enjoying afternoon snacks. Some are watching television, others sharing stories about their children and grandchildren, with laughter occasionally breaking the atmosphere. Residents here are not just provided with accommodation; the warm ambiance is far from the typical nursing home image that lingers in people’s minds.

Senior Living Care manager Claudia explained that senior living and nursing homes are two distinct concepts. She stated that residents at Senior Living Care are independent and healthy seniors who choose to live there for various reasons, from needing companionship to desiring a more comfortable environment.

“Here, it’s essentially a residence for seniors. But we also offer daycare services. So it’s not just children who have daycare; seniors do too,” Claudia said on Saturday (30 May 2026).

Claudia noted that many people still equate senior living with nursing homes, despite their differing concepts. Nursing homes typically provide social services for seniors requiring assistance or special care, whereas senior living caters to active and independent seniors needing a safer, more comfortable environment with daily support.

“We accept residents who are independent and healthy. Options include daily, monthly, weekly, or annual stays. There’s a variety of packages,” she added.

In addition to long-term housing, Senior Living Care offers daycare services. Seniors can arrive in the morning for activities before returning home in the evening. This service is typically used by families with busy schedules who cannot be with their parents all day.

“Some have children who are busy working and want to leave their parents somewhere safe. They might worry if they’re left alone at home,” Claudia said.

Due to the concept of housing with various facilities and support, residents pay according to the chosen package. Claudia stated that Senior Living Care provides several service options, from daycare to long-term housing, with daycare fees starting at Rp 400,000 per day.
