Senior Chinese official in Myanmar

MYANMAR: Wang Zhongyu, the chief secretary of the Chinese
Cabinet, arrived in Yangon on Sunday on a four-day official visit
in the latest demonstration of growing ties between Myanmar and
China.

Wang, a state councilor and secretary general of the State
Council of China, was welcomed at the Yangon International
Airport by Myanmar leaders led by Lt. Gen. Khin Nyunt, Secretary
One of the ruling military junta.

He was taken to the government guest house in a motorcade.
Wang is expected to hold official talks with Khin Nyunt later
Sunday before attending a dinner hosted by him. Khin Nyunt is
also the chief of military intelligence.

Wang is scheduled to meet on Monday with Myanmar leader Than
Shwe, who is the chairman of the State Peace and Development
Council, as the government is known. --AP
