The Indonesian broadcasting world is mourning the loss of senior Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI) broadcaster Teddy Resmi Sari, who passed away at her residence in South Tangerang in the early hours of Monday (15/6) at the age of 90. She was widely known through the iconic programme Cerdas Cermat.

Teddy Resmi Sari was one of the pioneers who joined TVRI in its early days. Her name is etched in the hearts of viewers, especially the 1970s generation, through the children’s programme Cerdas Cermat and the show Panorama Remaja.

Born the third daughter of legendary literary figure Sanusi Pane, Teddy began her career at Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI). Her dedication to broadcasting then continued at TVRI, where she not only served as a newsreader but was also active as a producer and scriptwriter for television programmes.

Her son, Audy Mirza Alwi, remembered his mother as a figure with extraordinary dedication, both to her work and her family. Amidst her busy life as a media practitioner, Teddy always prioritised her children’s education.

‘Mama was a generous mother, helping to ease the hardships of others. On the other hand, she was also a mother who was busy with her work, even managing to write a book amidst that busyness,’ said Audy, who is also a former Photo Editor at LKBN ANTARA.

Even into her old age, the figure affectionately known as ‘Kak Teddy’ reportedly remained enthusiastic about following developments in the national communications and broadcasting world. In recent years, she spent her retirement with her youngest daughter in South Tangerang.

Teddy Resmi Sari is survived by four children, two daughters and two sons, all of whom have families of their own. Her remains were interred at the Islamic Cemetery of RW 07 Kampung Tipar, Cimanggis, Depok. Her passing marks the departure of one of the historical witnesses and early practitioners who helped shape the foundations of the television and radio industry in Indonesia.
