JAKARTA - The Minister for Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait or Ara, praised the performance of the state-owned enterprise (BUMN) Karya in constructing temporary housing (huntara) in the Senen area of Jakarta, which is progressing faster than the target.

The praise was expressed during her direct inspection of the construction progress alongside the President Director of PT Angkasa Pura I, Muhammad Rizal Pahlevi, on Friday (17/4/2026).

On that occasion, Ara emphasised that the construction of huntara represents the government’s swift action to provide decent housing for communities living along railway edges.

“We want to ensure that the community receives more decent, safe, and organised accommodation. This huntara is a quick solution while we prepare permanent arrangements,” Ara stated, quoted from a press release on Friday (17/4/2026).

She noted that the construction progress is running very well and even exceeding expectations. A total of 324 huntara units are targeted for completion by 15 June 2026.

Nevertheless, Ara revealed that several technical obstacles are being addressed, such as the provision of water services by the Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) as well as infrastructure support from PT PLN (Persero) and PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk.

She stated that she would soon coordinate with the relevant parties to ensure all needs are met before the completion target.

“Indeed, there are some matters like PDAM; I will directly coordinate with the Governor of DKI Jakarta. For PLN and Telkom, I will coordinate with Mr Rosan and Mr Doni. This must be resolved before 15 June,” she explained.

Ara also assured that the huntara being built not only pursues speed but also considers aspects of feasibility and comfort.

Each unit will be equipped with two beds, a wardrobe, and a fan, and supported by public facilities such as a dining area, bathrooms, kitchen, prayer room, and green open space.

The Gerindra politician also expressed appreciation for the cross-sector collaboration in accelerating the construction, including support for Prabowo Subianto’s directives in providing people’s housing.

The construction of huntara in the Senen area is expected to soon be utilised by the community and become part of more orderly, safe, and humane urban area arrangements.
