Send us teachers!
Send us teachers!
From Kompas
Since 1988 most children of Long Apari village in Kutai
district, East Kalimantan have not been able to attend school
because there are no teachers available. I learned of this when I
had an assignment there.
A school building with six rooms for studying is full of rats
and birds.
The parents of the village and a private foundation tried to
pay some young villagers who have graduated from Teachers'
College to teach some 150-200 children of elementary school age.
But unfortunately, they studied only for two years because their
parents lacked money to pay the teachers any longer.
Now they can only hope that the government recognizes their
problem and sends them teachers.
