Senators Praise 2026 MPR Annual Session as More Formal and Improved

The implementation of the 2026 MPR Annual Session at the Senayan Complex, Jakarta, on Friday was deemed more formal and improved by several senators.

Chairman of the MPR Budget Committee, Melchias Marcus Mekeng, assessed that this year’s session was better than the previous one, with the proceedings feeling more official and not filled with activities deemed less relevant to the main agenda. “This was demonstrated by President Prabowo, who delivered his speech very well,” Mekeng said in a statement. “There was not much improvisation, but that made it better because this forum is indeed very important,” he added.

Regarding the speech on the President’s performance report, Mekeng noted that the material presented by Prabowo illustrated the various achievements of his administration. “Starting from Danantara, which has yielded significant results, to his flagship programmes, from Sekolah Rakyat and MBG to top-tier schools. All of these are needed by the public, and he is consistent with what he is fighting for,” Mekeng stated.

Echoing this sentiment, MPR member from the DPD RI group, Fahira Idris, assessed that the session’s atmosphere reflected the importance of the MPR Annual Session as a constitutional moment to convey the nation’s direction and the performance of state institutions to the people. According to her, the smooth running of this year’s MPR Annual Session was inseparable from the support and cooperation of the Secretariat General of the MPR RI, DPR RI, and DPD RI. The three bodies synergised in preparing various facilities and infrastructure, from the conference room, seating arrangements, and protocol to technical systems, security, and services for participants and invited guests. “Everything appeared to have been prepared seriously. For a state agenda as significant as the MPR Annual Session, this kind of readiness is crucial so that the substance of the session can proceed without being disrupted by technical issues,” Fahira said.
