Senator: Price rises due to Iran war, US citizens cut back on eating

Washington (ANTARA) - American citizens are starting to cut back on eating due to price increases triggered by US military operations against Iran, stated US Senate Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. “American citizens have already skipped meals due to the reckless war in Iran deliberately chosen by (US President Donald) Trump, and this is just another example of how the chaos he has created is making it increasingly difficult for them to buy food,” Schumer wrote on platform X on Wednesday (25/3). Schumer made this statement in response to media reports that US citizens are now reducing food purchases to cover the sharply rising fuel costs following Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched attacks on targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and killing civilians. Iran then retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East. This escalation has resulted in a de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the main shipping route for oil and liquefied natural gas from Persian Gulf countries to global markets. The disruption has also affected oil exports and production in the region and driven up prices.
