Jakarta - The Chairman of Committee IV of the DPD RI, Ahmad Nawardi, has strongly condemned the destruction of a Madurese stall carried out by a TNI member in the Jalan Raya Kodam area, Sumur Batu Ward, Kemayoran Subdistrict, Central Jakarta.

Ahmad emphasised the importance of resolving conflicts through dialogue and increasing public understanding of digital payment systems to avoid misunderstandings.

“We must prioritise communication and education. Technical issues like QRIS should not trigger conflicts,” Ahmad said in a written statement on Friday (8/5/2026).

The incident reflects the importance of the state’s presence in guaranteeing protection for citizens.

“The problem is simple, but the method of resolution does not reflect the ethics of the officer. This must be taken seriously,” he stated.

He explained that the state is obliged to provide protection for Madurese stalls and other sundry shops as part of the small economy.

“When they become victims of intimidation and violence, the state must be present to provide protection,” he asserted.

“The state must ensure that small communities feel safe in running their businesses. That is a basic principle that cannot be negotiated,” he said.

The TNI member with initials Sertu AW and the ‘Adi Jaya’ shopkeeper in Sumur Batu, Kemayoran Subdistrict, named Dedi, who were involved in the altercation on Sunday (3/5/2026), have agreed to reconcile.

The Chairman of RT 09, Sumur Batu, Bambang (51), said the reconciliation took place during a mediation meeting involving several related parties. The mediation was held on Monday (4/5/2026).

“For the meeting, between the parties, TNI, Pak Haji, and Dedi, it was mediated by the Central Jakarta Police Resort, and it has been resolved,” Bambang said when confirmed by Kompas.com on Wednesday (5/5/2026).
