The Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) Office in West Nusa Tenggara has announced that the Senaru climbing route in North Lombok Regency is reopening after being temporarily closed due to the impact of forest fires in the area.

Astekita Ardiarsito, Head of the TNGR Office Administration Sub-division, stated in Mataram on Saturday that following the fire suppression process and evaluations alongside stakeholders, the Senaru trekking route has been declared safe to reopen.

“The Senaru climbing route will reopen starting 3 October 2026,” he said.

He explained that the reopening follows confirmation that the fire has been extinguished and that inspections of climbing facilities and infrastructure have been conducted to ensure the safety of visitors.

“Tourists planning to climb can register online via the eRinjani application,” he added. He further noted that there are currently five climbing routes open.

Previously, forest fires on the Senaru and Torean climbing routes caused surface fires affecting mountain pine, shrubs, bushes, grass, mountain savannah, dry leaves, and other undergrowth vegetation.

“Based on temporary monitoring up to 29 September 2026, the affected area reaches 1,098.75 hectares, and no new or expanding hotspots have been detected,” he said.

He noted that these figures are preliminary estimates and will be updated based on field monitoring, drone documentation, and area boundary verification.

He stated that monitoring of the fire conditions in the area is being conducted via drones from a distance of 350 metres. The remaining hotspots consist of standing trees that were previously burnt, which are currently isolated and not spreading.

“The team remains on alert to anticipate any re-ignition. Surveillance has been strengthened through patrols and baggage inspections,” he said.

The forest fire in Bukit Setampol, Torean Resort, Mount Rinjani, Lombok, occurred on Tuesday, 22 September 2026.
