Seminar on convention
JAKARTA (JP): The Directorate General of Tourism will hold a
seminar on the meeting, incentive convention and exhibition
industry this month in cooperation with the Asian Association of
Convention and Visitors Bureaus.
The one-day seminar, focusing on "Generating Asian
Conventions" will be held on Jan. 21 at Le Meridien hotel, and
will feature Director General of Tourism Andi Mappi Sammeng and
the Director for Conventions of the Singapore Tourist Promotion
Board, Kevin Leong, as speakers.
The seminar, scheduled to be opened by Minister of Tourism,
Post and Telecommunications, Joop Ave, is expected to deal with
the challenges facing the fast growing travel and tourism
businesses, including the meeting, convention and exhibition
industry, in the Asia-Pacific region.
The meeting, convention and exhibition business, categorized
as a multi-dollar international industry, has grown rapidly in
Asia, where the number of events has increased from 5,279 with
6.17 million participants in 1992, to 9,215 with more than 8.93
participants in 1993.(icn)
