Semen Padang sales up 5.92 percent

PADANG, West Sumatra: State-owned cement producer PT Semen Padang's sales in this year's first semester reached 2.43 million tons, or 5.92 percent higher than the target of 2.3 million tons. While the first half production reached 2.45 million tons from a target of 2.32 million tons.

The firm's marketing director Widodo said on Tuesday that the production increase would be able to fulfill 50 percent of the market demand on Sumatra island, which is about 6.1 million tons per year. Semen Padang's annual production is about 5.1 million tons.

The firm plans to expand its market to Banten, Jakarta and West Java, which account for a total demand of 12 million tons per year.

Semen Padang, a subsidiary of the country's largest cement producer, will build a distribution terminal in Banten to help the plan materialize. -- JP
