Semarang woos more foreign investors

JAKARTA (JP): Central Java, especially the province's capital,
Semarang, offers a wide range opportunities for foreign
investment as the area promises a wide array of businesses, a
foreign diplomat said.

There are about 40 kinds of businesses in the area which are
viable for foreign investments, Belgium's Ambassador to Indonesia
Marc Van Rysselberghe said in Semarang over the weekend.

Van Rysselberghe, together with 12 ambassadors from other
countries, visited Semarang and its surrounding districts last
week, said the city is strategically located for international
and inter-island trade and has adequate infrastructure.

During their two-day visit to the province the ambassadors
toured several industrial plants and potential industrial sites.

Semarang's Mayor Soetrisno Suharto, who hosted the diplomats
at a dinner party on Friday, hoped that the ambassadors' visit
would help promote the city and the province among foreign
investors.

"The ambassadors will hopefully inform businessmen in their
respective home countries of the potential business opportunities
they observed during their visit," Antara News Agency quoted
Soetrisno.

The visit, organized by the provincial administration, in what
it saw as a diplomatic business mission, was designed to further
promote the province among foreign investors.(icn)
