Semarang to host Golden Gloves

SEMARANG (JP): The Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association
(Pertina) has selected Central Java as host of the Sarung Tinju
Emas (Golden Gloves) all-star boxing event next year, an official
with the local chapter said on Saturday.

"It can be Semarang, Purwokerto or Surakarta. We are ready to
hold it," chapter executive director Kristanto said. "We prefer
Semarang," he added.

The tournament is slated for January or February. Kristanto
said the chapter had not received any applications.

Boxers ranked in the national top five for each category are
eligible to take part.

"Central Java has four to five boxers in those ranks. As host,
we will be allowed to field wild cards," he said. (har)
