Semarang to have trade center

SEMARANG (JP): A major trade exhibition center will be built in the Diponegoro sports stadium here to provide local companies with an opportunity to display their products.

Central Java Chamber of Trade and Industry chairman Sundoro said here on Thursday that the trade center would be built by the local government, with a total investment of Rp 50 billion (US$4.54 million).

He said that the center could also be used by foreign businesses to exhibit their products.

Sundoro added that the regional administration also planned to build a customs and excise office in Ungaran, 15 kilometers from Semarang.

The compound will integrate all international trading activities, including customs services, container storage and warehousing, under one roof.

Around Rp 100 billion will be spent to construct offices, warehouses and procure containers, he said. (03/har)
