Semarang reelects mayor
SEMARANG: Semarang City Council has reelected a retired Army colonel as its mayor whose name, coincidentally, carries both the name of the country's president and vice president.
Col. Soetrisno Suharto, 54 years old, won the most votes at a council election on Monday night to earn the right to govern the city for the 1995-2000 period, according to Antara.
His reelection however is still subject to approval by the Minister of Home Affairs. If all goes well, he will be reappointed on Jan. 19.
At the election, his nearest competitor Muchatib Adisubrata collected only three votes and the other candidate Kartono had two. (emb)
