Semarang Prison Seizes Improvised Sharp Weapons from 32 Cells

Officers at the Semarang Correctional Institution (Lapas), Central Java, have secured scissors and improvised sharp weapons during a raid across 32 residential cells.

The Head of Semarang Prison, Ahmad Tohari, stated in Semarang on Wednesday that the raid is part of routine early detection activities carried out to prevent security disturbances.

“We will continue to monitor to prevent the misuse and circulation of drugs within the prison,” said Tohari.

He explained that the joint raid involved approximately 50 prison officers alongside personnel from the National Police, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN).

Tohari ensured that the searches of the residential cells were conducted humanely while adhering to applicable regulations.

For inmates found in possession of dangerous items, the prison authorities will impose sanctions in accordance with existing regulations.

From approximately 70 prisoners and officers who underwent urine testing, all results were declared negative for drugs.

These raids and inspections will continue as part of the efforts to maintain security and prevent the misuse and circulation of narcotics within the Semarang Prison environment.
