Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng has expressed full support for the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census (SE), deeming it essential to ensure that every economic policy and development programme truly aligns with the community’s needs. She stressed that the primary benefit of the Economic Census is the availability of accurate data, which will assist the government in delivering more targeted programmes, ranging from strengthening MSMEs and creating jobs to improving citizens’ welfare. “When economic data on the community is properly recorded, the government can see the real needs on the ground. This way, business assistance programmes, training, access to capital, and job creation can be provided to those who genuinely need them,” Agustina stated on Thursday (18/6/2026). The support was conveyed during the launch of the 2026 Economic Census for Central Java Province, held in Semarang. The Economic Census, conducted once every ten years, will record all business activities in Indonesia, covering home-based businesses, small traders, MSMEs, and large corporations. The data collection will produce a real picture of the community’s economic condition, growing business sectors, and economic potentials that still need to be encouraged. For the people of Semarang, the census results will serve as a basis for the government in designing more responsive policies. Through this data, MSME players can obtain support tailored to their business needs, investors can see regional economic potential more clearly, and the government will have a strong foundation to create new jobs and boost equitable economic growth. “Every piece of data provided by the community will be the basis for designing policies that directly impact citizens’ lives. Therefore, the more complete the data obtained, the more precise the programmes the government can prepare,” she explained. As one of the economic growth centres in Central Java, Semarang is considered to have a strategic role in ensuring the success of the Economic Census. The resulting data will not only benefit the local government but will also be crucial for formulating economic policies at the provincial and national levels. Agustina added that the Economic Census is also an opportunity to ensure that small businesses, which have been the backbone of the community’s economy, can be better mapped. The Semarang City Government has declared its readiness to synergise with Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in socialising the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census. This collaboration is important so that all business actors understand that their participation will provide long-term benefits for future regional economic development. “We invite all business actors, from micro-enterprises to large companies, to actively participate in the 2026 Economic Census. The data provided today will help the government deliver more precise policies, so that the benefits of development can be felt more widely by the community,” Agustina asserted. The public and business actors are also urged not to worry about the security of the information provided. All data collected by BPS is guaranteed confidentiality and is used solely for statistical purposes in accordance with statutory provisions. Through the 2026 Economic Census, the Semarang City Government hopes for the availability of higher-quality economic data, so that development can proceed more accurately, business and employment opportunities can be further opened, and community welfare can continue to improve.
