Semarang High School Student Allegedly Assaulted by Men Claiming to Be Intelligence Operatives, Case Reported to Police

A state high school student in Semarang City has become a victim of assault and battery by individuals claiming to be intelligence operatives from the West Semarang Police. The case has been reported to the Semarang City Police and remains under investigation. On Wednesday (8/7), a legal team from the Centre for Consultation and Legal Aid of the Al-Qur’an Education Institute Coordination Board in Semarang visited the Women and Children Protection Unit of the Semarang City Police Criminal Investigation Department to report the assault and intimidation of the student. The victim, identified by the initials IHP, was allegedly assaulted and intimidated by three men, suspected to be volunteers who claimed to be intelligence operatives from the West Semarang Police. The victim, who is a student, was accused of being involved in illegal street racing, taken to the police station, interrogated, and eventually released. ‘We demand this case be thoroughly investigated. The victim is an underage student who has suffered trauma as a result of this incident,’ said Joko Susanto, head of the legal team. Accompanied by the victim’s mother, Hindrawati, Joko Susanto stated that after reporting the case, the legal team is coordinating with investigators to push for the case to be processed immediately. ‘After we conducted a search, the perpetrators are suspected to be volunteers, and we have included a photograph of one of the perpetrators,’ he added. According to Joko Susanto, the intimidation and assault began when the victim had just dropped off a friend in the early hours of Saturday (4/7). On his way home in the Puspowarno area, West Semarang District, he was suddenly cornered by three people who accused him of being involved in illegal street racing. The victim was then interrogated and struck by the perpetrators before being taken to the West Semarang Police station, where he was interrogated again at the nearest police station and eventually sent home. ‘We are providing legal assistance because the victim is an alumnus of an Al-Qur’an educational centre and his mother is a member of the Semarang City Badko LPQ,’ he said. The Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit at the Semarang City Police, Kompol Ni Made Srinitri, confirmed that her unit had received the report from the victim and his legal counsel and had immediately begun an investigation. She stated that a number of witnesses are scheduled to be examined. ‘We have received the report regarding the case involving a student from a state high school in Semarang City. The case is still under investigation and being deepened,’ said Ni Made Srinitri. She noted that in the preliminary investigation, officers have already identified the suspected perpetrators, but to complete the inquiry, the police will still need to examine the victim and witnesses. ‘They have been identified, but we cannot yet disclose the identities of the perpetrators who claimed to be intelligence operatives,’ she added.
