Semarang club sacks Brazilians

JAKARTA (JP): Brazilian soccer magic lost some of its dazzle in Indonesia when a Central Javanese club, PSIS Semarang, sacked on Wednesday two players from the World Cup winning country.

The Semarang side returned Roberto Marcos Alves and Luis Claudio to the International Sports Agency, the league's broker of foreign booters.

"The Brazilians failed their skill tests in our two warm-up matches this week," the club's project officer, Ganang Ismail, said. A disappointed Ganang added that he had asked the league's promoter to send two replacement by Nov. 15.

A total of 21 Brazilians, most of them having played in Portugal, arrived here last week for the Indonesian league's new season which is scheduled to kick off on Nov. 26. (amd)
