Semarang City Government Yet to Implement WFH Policy
Semarang (ANTARA) - The Semarang City Government has not yet implemented the work-from-home (WFH) policy every Friday for its civil servants (ASN) because it is still reviewing the regulations, particularly regarding their impact on energy savings. Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti, in Semarang on Friday, stated that her administration has not decided on the WFH policy for ASN every Friday. According to her, they are still examining the central government’s rules, especially concerning the effectiveness of activities for energy savings. “I have requested a meeting to discuss it, and at the same time, we ask for specific actions beyond just WFH. The main point is that wherever they work, public services in Semarang City must remain the top priority and not be disrupted,” she said. Coincidentally, this Friday features several important agendas, including events with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the Semarang District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari), and the Semarang Police Headquarters (Polrestabes Semarang). She is instead focusing more on reducing the fuel oil (BBM) budget for officials within the Semarang City Government. According to her, the Semarang City Government has its own methods to reduce BBM usage by cutting official travel budgets. This measure is still under review, she said, and once completed, the calculation results and BBM budget reduction scheme will be announced immediately. Clearly, she assured that energy-saving regulations must not reduce the quality of services to the public. Meanwhile, at the provincial level, the Central Java Provincial Government has issued Circular Letter (SE) Number B/000.8.3/3/2026 on the Transformation of Civil Servants’ Work Culture within the Central Java Provincial Government. The circular, dated 1 April 2026, follows the Minister of Home Affairs’ SE Number 800.1.5/3349/SJ on the Transformation of Civil Servants’ Work Culture. In the SE issued by the Central Java Provincial Government, among other things, it includes the implementation of work from home or WFH for some ASN every Friday. This policy is also in line with the central-level ASN work adjustment policy outlined in the Minister of PAN-RB’s SE Number 2 of 2026.
