Semarang (ANTARA) - The Semarang City Government will soon repair 65 houses in RT 5 RW 3, Gedawang Ward, Banyumanik Subdistrict, which were damaged by a tornado. Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti, in Semarang on Wednesday, confirmed that emergency assistance and the house renovation process through the Uninhabitable House Rehabilitation Programme (RTLH) can be promptly carried out by the relevant agencies. The tornado that struck on Monday (30/3) caused dozens of residents’ houses in Gedawang to sustain damage, ranging from minor to severe. Based on preliminary data, 65 houses were affected in the area, with 29 of them experiencing significant damage. To ease the burden on the affected families, the Semarang City Government has distributed various logistical aids, from food staples, tarps, to temporary bedding. “I thank the residents for their quick response. So that afternoon I got the news, and upon arriving here, the residents had already started working together,” she said during her inspection of the site. “There is also cash assistance. Now, those that need renovation will be included in the Disperkim list for RTLH. Hopefully, the survey team won’t take long because this is indeed a need,” she added. She once again expressed special appreciation for the local wisdom of Gedawang residents, who demonstrated a harmonious and united attitude in helping one another during the disaster. Mass communal work was still ongoing at the site to repair residents’ house roofs damaged by the strong winds.
