The Semarang City Government has stated that the construction progress of the Sekolah Rakyat in the Rowosari area, Semarang, has now reached 90 per cent.

Speaking in Semarang on Wednesday, the Semarang City Regional Secretary, Handi Priyanto, noted that he had intentionally invited 16 sub-district heads to inspect the progress of the Sekolah Rakyat development.

“I invited the 16 sub-district heads here so that they are aware of the location of the Sekolah Rakyat being prepared for the residents of Semarang City. It covers an area of 6.5 hectares,” he said.

He estimated that construction is expected to be completed by 10 July 2026, with the hope that the school will be able to admit students by the following academic year.

There will be a specific recruitment process for teachers to instruct at the Sekolah Rakyat. However, prior to this recruitment, temporary teaching assignments will be managed by the Education Office.

He added that the infrastructure readiness, including kitchens, cooking equipment, bedding, toilets, and basic utilities such as water, is already prepared.

“Basic needs are met; we are now just scrutinising the smaller details. We must ensure that the children do not move here before everything is fully ready,” he said.

Remaining tasks include finishing the dormitory and landscaping the gardens, whereas the teachers’ dormitory, prayer rooms, and a guest house within the school are already complete.

“There will be a total of 270 students, divided into 90 primary school, 90 junior high school, and 90 senior high school students. The students have already been identified, as they are drawn from residents in deciles 1 and 2,” he said.

According to him, massive socialisation will be conducted for students whose children are registered for the Sekolah Rakyat, as some parents, particularly those of primary school students, remain hesitant.

“On average, the mothers—especially for the primary school children—might be reluctant to have their children living here, perhaps due to concerns about them missing home,” he said.

However, Priyanto noted that parents have been educated that they are permitted to visit their children every day during designated times.
