Semarang City Government Distributes Aid to Flood Victims
Semarang (ANTARA) - The Semarang City Government has distributed social assistance in the form of basic necessities and logistics to residents affected by the floods that hit the Ngaliyan and Tugu sub-districts.
“The assistance has been prepared to ensure that the basic needs of residents are met during the emergency response period,” said the Mayor of Semarang, Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti, in Semarang, Central Java, on Saturday.
Since the floods occurred, relevant organizational units (OPDs) and joint personnel have been deployed to carry out handling in several affected areas.
She said that the cleaning of mud, the normalization of drainage channels, the pumping of floodwaters, and the data collection of affected residents were carried out intensively to ensure that conditions would soon recover and community activities would return to normal.
The assistance that has been distributed includes 60 packages of ready-to-eat food, 140 packages of ready-to-eat side dishes, 25 mattresses, 10 rolls of tents, 10 family kits, and 8 children’s packages.
“The distribution is carried out in stages with priority given to the areas and residents who are most affected,” she said.
The Semarang City Government has affirmed that flood management is carried out comprehensively, starting from handling conditions in the field to paying attention to the social needs of the community.
“Coordination between OPDs is also continuously strengthened so that the handling process runs quickly, effectively, and on target,” she said.
On the other hand, the Semarang City Government also appealed to the public to remain vigilant against the potential for extreme weather and to actively report emergency conditions in their respective areas so that they can be immediately followed up by officers.
The flood brought mud to the vital Silayur route and caused the Plumbon River embankment in Mangkang Kulon Village, Tugu District, to collapse on Friday (May 25, 2026) night.
Data from the Tugu District records that as many as 313 households in Mangkang Kulon Village were directly affected by the overflowing river water.
In addition to the flooding, an embankment in the area of RT 01 RW 01 was reported to have collapsed along approximately 40 meters, which worsened the impact of the flood on the surrounding residential areas.
According to her, the very high intensity of rain in the upstream Ungaran area and the local Ngaliyan area triggered runoff that could not be contained in the flow of the Silandak River and the Plumbon River.
