Semarang City Government Deploys Seven Buses to Collect Mudik Travellers from Jakarta to Semarang

The Semarang City Government (Pemkot) has prepared seven bus units to transport residents of Semarang who are currently in Jakarta. Seven buses were dispatched on Wednesday, 11 March in the morning from the forecourt of Semarang City Hall heading to TMII Jakarta to bring mudik travellers back to Central Java’s capital. Semarang City Mayor Agustina Wilujeng personally sent off the seven empty bus units.

“Today we are sending seven buses to welcome our siblings in Jakarta to return to Semarang. So we are sending empty buses to collect mudik travellers specifically with Semarang ID cards,” said Agustina in a statement on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

She assured that the seven buses carrying mudik travellers back to Semarang would be fully occupied. Later, during the return period, Semarang City Government would also provide five buses to return to the capital.

“We are working on how to ensure that the people of Semarang feel comfortable and prosperous in facing Eid. In essence, we help the community carry out the stages in the process of preparing for Eid properly,” she explained.

Not only preparing buses for the mudik and return journeys, the Semarang City Government officials will also be stationed at their respective posts during Eid al-Fitr. This is in line with instructions from the central government to ensure conduciveness in each region remains safe and comfortable.

Meanwhile, the Head of Semarang City Transportation Department, Danang Kurniawan, said the total number of buses provided for the mudik and return period is twelve buses.

On 16 March 2026, bus units will be ready to transport Semarang residents in Jakarta to return to Semarang. They will subsequently alight at Mangkang Terminal or Semarang City Hall.

Meanwhile, on 26 March 2026, five buses will be ready to take Semarang residents back to Jakarta with gathering points at City Hall or Mangkang Terminal.

“Later from Jakarta it will be sent off by the Central Java Governor. And next year we plan to increase it to ten buses when departing to Jakarta, whereas now we only have seven,” said Danang.
