Sellers have raised concerns about difficulties in operating on online marketplaces. The grievances were voiced during a meeting with Trade Minister Budi Santoso on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, with marketplace platform representatives also in attendance.

Budi stated that the meeting would provide valuable input for finding fair solutions for sellers, platforms, and buyers within the e-commerce ecosystem.

“Today, we have listened to the aspirations of sellers and marketplace platform representatives regarding e-commerce activities. Of course, the issues raised today cannot be resolved immediately,” Budi said in a statement on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

“All feedback has been recorded, and we hope for collective commitment to grow a fair e-commerce ecosystem for platforms, sellers, and consumers,” Budi added.

Budi acknowledged a range of challenges faced by sellers on platforms, which will be addressed through revisions to Minister of Trade Regulation No. 31 of 2023 on Business Licensing, Advertising, Development, and Oversight of Business Actors in Electronic Trade.

The revisions to Minister of Trade Regulation No. 31 of 2023, Budi explained, have reached the stage of regulatory harmonisation. The revisions involved input from platform and seller representatives. The regulation addresses local product protection and transparency on digital platforms.

“We want local products to thrive. If local products advance and are of good quality, we can control imports. Our system must support local products,” Budi stated.
