Self-Sorting Waste Programme to Begin Tomorrow, Pramono: Can No Longer Rely on Bantargebang
The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) will implement a waste sorting programme from homes starting tomorrow, Sunday (10/5/2026). DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the waste sorting programme is being intensified because Jakarta can no longer rely on the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) in Bekasi. This is due to the waste accumulation at Bantargebang reaching around 55 million tonnes. Therefore, the Jakarta Provincial Government is partnering with the Ministry of Environment and the Coordinating Ministry for Food to intensify the source separation movement. Pramono also requested support from religious figures, including Jakarta Archbishop Ignatius Cardinal Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo, to encourage congregation participation in this waste sorting movement.
