Selection of prospective Majelis Masyayikh members opens from 1 June 2026
Jakarta – The Ministry of Religious Affairs announced that the registration period for the selection of prospective members of the Majelis Masyayikh for the 2026–2031 term will open from 1 to 10 June 2026, organised by Ahlul Halli Wal Aqdi (AHWA).
“Majelis Masyayikh plays a strategic role as an autonomous and independent body tasked with formulating and establishing a quality assurance system for pesantren education,” said AHWA Chairman Miftah Faqih in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.
The Majelis Masyayikh is a body representing the Council of Masyayikh and functions to safeguard the quality of pesantren education, while ensuring the distinct characteristics, independence, and academic traditions of pesantren are maintained within the national education system.
The selection of prospective Majelis Masyayikh members is conducted in accordance with Law No. 18 of 2019 on Pesantren and the Minister of Religious Affairs Regulation No. 31 of 2020 on Pesantren Education.
Miftah Faqih said the process of selecting Majelis Masyayikh members is an important part of strengthening the pesantren education quality assurance system in Indonesia.
“Therefore, the selection process must be conducted objectively, transparently, accountably, and in accordance with the provisions of the laws and regulations,” he said.
AHWA Secretary Achmad Roziqi explained that the selection of Majelis Masyayikh members refers to the Technical Guidelines for the Election of Majelis Masyayikh Members for the 2026–2031 term, established by the Director-General of Islamic Education decision No. 3972 of 2026.
The technical guidelines are prepared as a manual for carrying out the selection to run effectively, efficiently, transparently, and accountably.
“The guidelines also stress the principles of legality, openness, impartiality, legal certainty, and good public service in all stages of the selection,” he said.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs has sent letters to pesantren education units and national-level pesantren associations to actively participate by proposing the best representatives who meet the requirements as prospective Majelis Masyayikh members.
According to the technical guidelines, the selection stages include registration, document verification, announcement of administrative selection results, essay submission, public hearing, interview, up to the determination of Majelis Masyayikh members.
The Majelis Masyayikh members are an odd number, at least nine and at most 17, representing the fields of Islamic religious sciences.
Prospective Majelis Masyayikh members who pass the interview selection will be proposed by AHWA as candidates to the Minister of Religious Affairs for appointment as Majelis Masyayikh members.
The inauguration of Majelis Masyayikh for the 2026–2031 term is planned to take place on 3–4 November 2026.
