The Selection Committee (Pansel) has announced that the selection process for commissioners of the National Commission on Disability (KND) for the 2026-2031 term will commence shortly. Participation and public testing will be introduced as new stages in this year’s selection process.

The KND Selection Committee is led by Professor M. Nuh as chairman, with members including Abdul Muis representing the government, Badriyanto from the practitioner sector, Ulfah from the professional sector, and Siswandi as a community leader.

“There has been a delay in the formation of this selection committee. Therefore, we apologise for the delay; however, what is unacceptable is a vacuum within the KND. The KND must not remain vacant; there must always be someone managing it,” stated the Chairman of the KND Selection Committee, M. Nuh, in Cawang on Friday (4/9/2026).

He noted that the selection will be conducted through eight stages, beginning with the announcement and screening, and concluding with the final appointment by the President.

The announcement regarding the screening process and registration requirements will be uploaded to the KND website between 7-14 September 2026. Online registration and the submission of required documents will take place from 15-21 September 2026.

“What is interesting and different from the previous period is that we in the selection committee have agreed to invite as much public participation as possible. There will be a stage for public input. Technically, the shortlisted names will be posted on the selection committee’s website, and we invite all Indonesian citizens to provide both positive and negative feedback,” he said.

He further explained that a public testing phase will occur once the list of candidates has been narrowed down to 49 individuals. This public testing will be held openly.

“The 49 shortlisted candidates will undergo public testing, where they will present their vision and mission for serving as members of the KND. We invite members of the public and activists from disability organisations to attend and evaluate them,” the Committee stated.

The KND Selection Committee hopes that the selected candidates will meet the necessary administrative, competency, and representation standards. They have guaranteed that the selection process will be conducted transparently.

“We hope that those we propose to the President are individuals who have been thoroughly vetted in terms of administration, competence, and representation. We want to ensure that representation is absolute. Only through this can we ultimately secure the best candidates,” he concluded.
