Sekolah Rakyat Begins Operations, Expanding Equitable Access to Education
The commencement of the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) for the 2026/2027 academic year signals the start of operations for Sekolah Rakyat in various regions. The presence of these schools is expected to broaden access to quality education for children, especially in areas that have previously faced limitations in educational facilities.
The Sekolah Rakyat programme is one of the government’s measures to strengthen human resource development through the provision of more equitable educational infrastructure. Beyond merely providing classrooms, the programme is designed to create an educational environment that comprehensively supports the learning process.
As one of the state-owned construction firms assigned to the project, PT Nindya Karya (Persero) has completed the construction of Phase II Sekolah Rakyat in 20 locations spread across South Sulawesi, North Sumatra, East Java, and Maluku. This distribution covers urban areas as well as Frontier, Outermost, and Disadvantaged (3T) regions, aiming to reduce the disparity in educational access between regions.
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo stated that the construction of Sekolah Rakyat is part of the government’s commitment to strengthening the quality of Indonesia’s human resources. “The construction of Sekolah Rakyat is a tangible manifestation of the government’s commitment to building superior human resources and supporting equitable access to education,” Dody said.
The Sekolah Rakyat complexes are built as integrated educational environments encompassing elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels, complete with teachers’ flats, student dormitories, canteens, a mosque, a multi-faith worship building, a multipurpose hall, green open spaces, and various sports facilities. Several locations also feature FIFA-standard football pitches, jogging tracks, basketball courts, and educational parks designed to support both the academic and non-academic development of students.
President Director of PT Nindya Karya (Persero) Firmansyah said the start of MPLS activities is an indicator that the infrastructure development has begun to provide direct benefits to the community. “We are grateful that the construction of Sekolah Rakyat, mandated by the government, has now entered the utilisation phase. The commencement of MPLS is proof that the results of the work carried out by Nindya Karya can now be directly felt by the community. The success of this project is not only measured by the completion of construction, but by the sustained benefits felt by the nation’s future generations,” he stated.
The operation of Sekolah Rakyat in various regions is expected not only to increase access to proper education but also to serve as a foundation in preparing a younger generation with more equal learning opportunities, including for communities in areas that have not yet been fully reached by quality education services.
For Nindya Karya, the completion of the Sekolah Rakyat construction is part of its support for the national strategic programme. The company has ensured that all facilities are ready for use from the first day of teaching and learning activities, so that the benefits of the development can be immediately felt by students and the community.
