Seko village gets airport
MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: Eight-seated Cessna planes can now land at an airport in Seko village, high in the mountains of Kambuno, in the north Luwu regency, South Sulawesi province, a local official said on Friday.
"An eight-seat Cessna will land in the airport by the end of this month," head of the local transportation office Sulhan Hasan said.
The Rp 15 billion (US$1.7 million) airport will play a strategic role in the development of the village that has until recently been isolated.
It normally takes people a three-day trek or a 12-hour motorcycle ride to reach Seko from Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi.
Tea plantations and tourism ventures could now be developed in the area, Sulhan said. --Antara
