Sefas Group has announced that it has agreed to acquire 100% of Shell’s public fuel filling station (SPBU) business in Indonesia.

The acquisition transaction is targeted for completion this year, subject to government approvals and other customary conditions.

Sefas Group CEO Ricky Roesli said the plan was undertaken as a form of support for the future growth of the national energy retail sector.

He emphasised that taking control of Shell’s petrol station business will advance the company to the next stage in its efforts to meet Indonesia’s growing energy needs.

“As the largest Shell lubricant distributor in Indonesia, Sefas is proud to take this next business step and support the future growth of Indonesia’s energy retail sector,” he said in an official statement.

“Sefas Group will continue the process to acquire full ownership of the business, with completion of the transaction expected to take place this year,” he added.

“Sefas’s top priority is to ensure a smooth transition process while maintaining safe and reliable operations,” he continued.

Shell customers will continue to find the Shell brand in the domestic market through a sustainable brand licensing scheme for employees and partners.

“Our ambition is to build one of the most trusted and sustainable energy retail businesses in Indonesia, while supporting the country’s economic growth and its evolving energy needs,” he added.

Meanwhile, Shell Indonesia President Director Andri Pratiwa described Sefas as a strategic partner with deep understanding of local market characteristics.

“Sefas is a partner that has long worked with Shell in Indonesia and has a deep understanding of the local market, customer needs, and a well-established network to support the next phase of business growth,” Andri said.

The acquisition process will continue with a focus on operational continuity across the entire Shell petrol station network. Through this transaction, Sefas Group strengthens its position in the national energy industry landscape as a local retail player managing a global brand.
