Seegene Promotes Comprehensive Testing Approach for Reproductive Tract Infections Through Global Million Clinical Study
Seegene Inc., a global molecular diagnostics company, is introducing a new approach to testing for reproductive tract infections (RTIs) by simultaneously detecting sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and human papillomavirus (HPV) using syndromic PCR. This initiative follows the launch of the Global Million Clinical Study (GMCS) on 8 July, which seeks to build scientific evidence for a new global standard in PCR testing.
Using its STAgora™ analytics and statistics platform, Seegene conducted an internal analysis of approximately 60,000 test results collected over 42 months. The findings revealed that STI-causing pathogens were detected in 82% of HPV-positive cases. Furthermore, 71% of positive cases identified through comprehensive testing showed co-infection with both HPV and STI pathogens. The company noted that many STIs are asymptomatic, meaning they can spread undetected if testing is limited to HPV alone.
Recent research suggests that STIs and vaginal dysbiosis can influence inflammation, immune response, and the cervical microbiota, potentially affecting the persistence of HPV. Seegene argues that interpreting HPV results alongside STI detection and clinical factors—such as age, symptoms, sexual history, and pregnancy plans—provides a more complete risk assessment. The company will present the importance of this comprehensive PCR approach at the ADLM 2026 conference in Anaheim, California, from 28–30 July.
