Seeded players dominate junior tennis c'ships

Seeded players dominated the 2003 ITF Indonesia Junior Tennis Championships, with nine marching into the third round of the boys' singles and six advancing to the quarterfinals of the girls singles at the Bung Karno tennis courts here on Wednesday.
Top seed Yi Chu-Huan of Chinese Taipei moved to the third round after defeating Japanese Takeuchi Kento 2-6, 6-0, 6-1, followed by Indonesian favorite and second seed Sunu Wahyu Trijati, who crushed Laurence Magaway of the Philippines 6-1, 6- 1.
Other seeded players who also advanced to the third round were Immanuel Prakoso, Sandy Purnomo, both from Indonesia, Roman Kelecic of Croatia, Durand Botha of South Africa, Jeevan Nedumchezhiyan of India, Hsu Yi-Che and Lee Meng-Hua of Chinese Taipei.
Meanwhile in the girls singles, top seed Liu Wan Ting of China walked through to the quarterfinals after outplaying wild card Gira Schofield of the United States 6-1, 6-1.
Second seed Indonesian Ayu Fani Damayanti came back from a set down to thump compatriot Lavinia Tananta 4-6, 6-0, 6-0.
Other seeded players advancing to the next round included Denis Harijanto, Dian Mayasari and Febri Joana of Indonesia, Ashmitha Easwaramurthi of India, and Gangothri Sandri of India.
Sixty-four boys and 32 girls are taking part in the tournament, which will run until Nov. 16.
