Security tightened at Caltex
PEKANBARU: Oil firm PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI) stepped
up security as Christians prepared to observe Christmas in
Pekanbaru, Riau province.
Security guards at the company's gate and police examined
every motorcycle and car entering the compound. All guests were
ordered to show their identity cards, causing a one-kilometer
queue from the main gate.
Local officers admitted the security at Caltex, one of the
country's vital structures, was tightened to prevent any possible
bombing or other disturbances around Christmas.
"We do this to anticipate actions by irresponsible people," a
security guard said.
Several policemen armed with guns were also seen at a church
inside the Caltex complex. -- Antara
