Security posts for flood-prone spots

SEMARANG: The Central Java office of the Ministry of Transportation has built a number of "command posts" in areas prone to flooding along the railway route connecting the towns of Brebes and Bojonegoro in East Java.

Quoting a statement from the office, Antara reported yesterday the posts had been erected at several points along the Semarang- Mangkang-Kaliwungu route, and along the Brumbung-Gubug and Bojonegoro routes.

The office also set up a security post to monitor possible landslides along the Tanggung-Kedungjati (Grobogan) route.

The posts will be manned by personnel equipped with walkie- talkies. Some materials, such as gravel and wood planks, have also been stored, ready for use in case of damage to the railway tracks.

The office called on motorists to be extra-cautious when using the road along the northern coast of Central Java, which is prone to flooding and landslides. (swe)
