Security in residential areas during mudik exodus needs to be tightened
Jakarta — A member of the Jakarta Provincial Legislative Council, Kevin Wu, has stated that residential areas left vacant during mudik (homecoming season) need to be guarded closely to ensure the capital remains secure and orderly.
“The Jakarta provincial government must ensure strong coordination with security apparatus, the Department of Transportation, and territorial representatives such as neighbourhood (RT) and sub-district (RW) officials to keep Jakarta conducive during the mudik and Lebaran holiday period,” Wu said in Jakarta on Friday.
According to him, although Jakarta typically becomes quieter during mudik season, the government cannot afford to be complacent in maintaining traffic flow and environmental security.
He also highlighted the importance of securing residential areas that are widely abandoned by travellers to anticipate potential criminal activities.
Wu also urged Jakarta residents who are not travelling home to maintain social solidarity and the spirit of togetherness during the Lebaran occasion.
“Lebaran is a moment for forgiveness and strengthening brotherhood. Let us keep Jakarta safe, peaceful, and full of togetherness during this holiday period,” he said.
Wu also extended congratulations to millions of people who will undertake the journey home to their hometowns to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with their families.
Wu also reminded an important message for travellers to always prioritise safety during their journey.
“The most important thing is not to arrive quickly, but to arrive safely. Do not push yourself if tired on the road. Get sufficient rest, obey traffic rules and maintain health during travel,” he said.
