Security guard killed in Bekasi
JAKARTA (JP): An on-duty security guard was bashed to death and his attackers ransacked the office of cellophane tape company PT Megavita in Tambun, Bekasi early yesterday morning.
The victim, Sutarjo, 30, a resident of Jl. Toyogiri, Jatimulya in Bekasi died from severe head wounds and a loss of blood.
Sutarjo, who had worked at the company for six months, was found laying on the floor of the security guards' room at 7 a.m. by a colleague, Abdullah.
The incident is believed to have taken place after midnight.
"At midnight there were still some workers in the factory," Mulyana, an employee, said.
Tambun Police initially thought the incident was a robbery but then nothing was found missing, Mulyana quoted a police officer as saying.
"The attackers only smashed a window pane and turned the desks upside down and damaged some filing cabinets but they didn't take anything."
Mulyana rejected speculation that retaliation was the motive behind the attack, following the dismissal of employees.
"This is a private company with a lot of workers so dismissal is not a new thing but I don't know if there is anybody who is so mad about it," he said.
Sutarjo died at Mitra Hospital in Bekasi. His body was sent to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in Central Jakarta for a postmortem examination. (emf)
