Security guard falls to death

BOGOR (JP): A security guard at a Bogor telecommunications office, Juju Suhendi, died on Thursday after being trapped in the office's elevator shaft for 28 hours.

Some colleagues found Juju unconscious at midday at the base of the shaft, which is eight meters deep, and admitted him to the PMI (Indonesian Red Cross) Hospital. The 59-year-old former Army Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad) soldier died after five hours of medical treatment.

The office's security guard chief, Hasan, said Juju might have fallen when he was about to conduct a regular check of the elevator on the ground floor on Wednesday morning.

"It appears that he fell immediately after he opened the door of the elevator," said Hasan, adding that there were not enough personnel to look for Juju since he was found missing on Wednesday. (21/04)
