Security Forces on High Alert Ahead of Hotel Sultan Eviction, Sympathiser Crowds Emerge

Security forces have begun standing by in the Hotel Sultan area, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (1%18/6/2026), coinciding with the planned execution of a land clearance dispute between the government and PT Indobuildco.

Observations at the location since this morning show that police and TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) personnel have been positioned at several strategic points around the Senayan area. Police were seen on guard at the police post near Gate 8 of Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), while TNI personnel were stationed at the Senayan East Parking area, located near the Hotel Sultan complex.

The number of security personnel around the location was observed to reach thousands. Their presence is reinforced by dozens of trucks and tactical vehicles belonging to the Police, Brimob, and the TNI, which have been parked and on standby around the area since early morning.

In addition to the security forces, hundreds of sympathisers were seen gathering around the Hotel Sultan area. They are opposing the eviction, delivering loud orations against the clearance of Hotel Sultan while carrying banners such as ‘REJECT THE SEIZURE OF HOTEL SULTAN BELONGING TO THE INDIGENOUS’ and ‘INDIGENOUS PEOPLE UNITE TO REJECT HOTEL SULTAN EVICTION’.

Security measures in the Senayan area also include restricted access. Several gates leading to the GBK area have been closed to the public to control mobility around the location.

Gate 4, Gate 5, and several other access points are impassable. Meanwhile, access through Gate 10, located in front of the TVRI office, remains open with limited capacity, leaving only one vehicle lane for entry and exit.

These restrictions have resulted in more limited traffic flow around several accessible points in the area. Security officers were seen directing vehicles attempting to pass through the Senayan area.
