Securing Food Supply: Government Increases SPHP Allocation for Rice and Maize
The government continues to strengthen food supplies to anticipate the impacts of prolonged droughts and lean periods. In addition to accelerating the distribution of Food Assistance, the government has increased the allocation for the Food Supply and Price Stabilisation (SPHP) of medium-grade rice and feed maize.
The government has increased the SPHP allocation for medium-grade rice by 1 million tonnes until March 202cap 2027. Furthermore, an SPHP allocation of 150,000 tonnes of feed maize has been prepared until December 2026.
The Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas), stated that these steps are being taken to maintain food availability while anticipating potential price increases caused by production and distribution pressures.
“What we are protecting is not just the availability of rice, but also the purchasing power of the people. Therefore, food assistance and supply stabilisation must proceed hand in hand,” said Zulhas in a statement on Saturday (12/09/2026).
This was conveyed during an inspection of Food Assistance distribution in Pisang Village, South Lampung Regency, on Friday (11/09). The distribution of assistance was also attended by the President Director of BULOG, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani.
Accelerating Food Assistance to 1.24 Million Residents in Lampung
To anticipate food pressures caused by the long dry season and the onset of the lean period, the government is also accelerating the distribution of Food Assistance to those in need.
In Lampung Province, 1,242,582 food assistance recipients (PBP) are targeted for the July-September 2026 programme period. Of this number, the current distribution realisation has reached 28.85 per cent.
Meanwhile, in South Lampung Regency, there are 182,398 recipients with a distribution realisation of 19.37 per cent. Specifically in Pisang Village, assistance was provided to 233 recipients with a total of 6.9 tonnes of rice. This amount is equivalent to 30 kilograms of rice per recipient for the July-September 2026 period.
The government is encouraging faster distribution so that all Food Assistance for the September period can be received optimally and accurately by the community, particularly families within the decile 1-4 groups.
“The government does not want the community to face the drought and lean periods alone. Food assistance must promptly reach the people in need,” explained Zulhas.
Food Assistance to Continue Until the End of the Year
The government has also ensured that Food Assistance will continue for the October-December 2026 period following instructions from the President. The continuity of this programme is part of the government’s strategy to maintain social protection and food security amidst economic dynamics and food production conditions.
The Coordinating Ministry for Food is also strengthening synergy with ministries, agencies, local governments, BULOG, and all stakeholders to ensure that food stabilisation programmes run effectively, accurately, and responsively to changing conditions on the ground.
