Secret Lovers Abandon Baby on Sancaka Train After Plotting in Hotel

A couple, identified as HDP (31) from Semarang and NIZ (25) from Tegal, have been arrested for abandoning a baby resulting from their secret affair on the Sancaka train. It was revealed that the pair planned to abandon their child while staying at a hotel in Yogyakarta. The infant was discovered by Sancaka train staff on Saturday morning (4/7) while the train was travelling from Yogyakarta to Surabaya. The baby was left with a carton of milk and baby supplies. Solo Police’s Women and Children Protection Unit Head, Commissioner Ratna Karlinasari, stated that the arrests occurred within a day. “The man was detained on Wednesday night (8/7) in Yogyakarta. The woman was arrested on Thursday (9/7) in Tegal,” Ratna said during a press conference at the Solo Police Station on Friday (10/7/2026). Solo Deputy Police Chief, Commissioner Sigit, said HDP and NIZ met while both were working in Semarang. They began a forbidden relationship, despite HDP already having a wife and child. During their relationship, they had sexual intercourse, resulting in NIZ becoming pregnant. After no longer working in Semarang, HDP found a new job in Yogyakarta, while NIZ decided to return to her home in Tegal. “The two suspects dated and engaged in sexual relations, leading to NIZ’s pregnancy. On 1 July 2026, NIZ gave birth at home unassisted,” Sigit said. A day after giving birth, NIZ took the baby to meet HDP in Yogyakarta on Thursday (2/7). The pair then checked into a hotel, where they began planning to abandon the child. Commissioner Ratna added that the suspects visited an orphanage in Yogyakarta. “From the female suspect’s statement, she went to the orphanage, but the facility only offered a three-month care period,” Ratna said. NIZ felt this duration was too short, as she planned to retrieve the child only when she was truly ready and after HDP married her. “The woman’s plan was to take the child back once she was able and married to the man,” Ratna stated. Consequently, on Saturday (4/7), the pair boarded a commuter train from Lempuyangan Station in Yogyakarta and alighted in Klaten, intending to leave the baby there. “Confused about where to leave the baby in Klaten, they decided to return to Yogyakarta,” Ratna said. The suspects then attempted to board a commuter train back to Yogyakarta from Klaten Station. However, while walking to the commuter train, they noticed the Sancaka train had stopped. The suspects then placed the baby in the toilet of the Sancaka train carriage. “Both took the initiative to place the baby on the train or in a public place so it could be quickly found, taken, and cared for by someone,” Ratna said. “They were commuter train passengers. Coincidentally, the Sancaka train was adjacent to the commuter train, so they had that idea,” she added. Solo Deputy Police Chief Sigit confirmed the baby is now being cared for at Bhayangkara Hospital in good health and is under the guardianship of the Solo Social Service. “The Social Service is ensuring the baby remains healthy at Bhayangkara Hospital. The baby’s breast milk and nutritional needs are being met. So, the child is now a ward of the state,” he explained. Several pieces of evidence were seized, including the suspects’ clothing, a suitcase, and baby supplies. For their actions, the suspects face charges under Article 429 in conjunction with Article 430 in conjunction with Article 20 of the Criminal Code on child neglect, carrying a maximum prison sentence of seven years.
